I like to think that there is a grand purpose behind everyone’s existence. That every single human being is a piece of this galactic universal puzzle, contributing to the final overall image that we come to call “the world”.
But that is not always the case, is it? Sadly, but surely some lives are so empty, so meaningless, and shallow. Devoid of any grandeur, so to speak. But recently I’ve been starting to think, is that entirely true, and if so then is that necessarily a bad thing?
What makes a life, meaningful? Is it not the perspective of the person living the life, believing it to be of value? And having said that, do we not all have different perspectives on life? Can’t we all be serving a purpose, in our own way?
Imagine a society with no drunks, junkies or criminals of any kind. Would the world not be a better place? Few years ago, my answer would have been a solid yes. But life is not that simple, and each and everyone of the above server; in their own way a higher purpose.
Society has been evolving throughout the ages, transforming into this dynamic living thing, feeding upon the energy of its individuals. If there were no crime for instance, would laws exist? You can argumentatively state that laws purely exist because of criminals, to keep them off the streets. But in reality laws exist to bring about justice, and to protect the innocent. If there was no law against murder, and at some point in time an average Joe of a person got very angry for whatever reason and in the heat of the moment inadvertently killed someone, what would happen then? Chaos, is what.
A human being, is by all standards imperfect, and a work in progress from the day he is born and until he dies. He is very susceptible to making mistakes, inadvertently sometimes hurting others. The existence of criminals accelerates the process of creating law and order, to regulate and deal with such actions. Personally, i believe we are still far from perfecting this system, but we are trying aren’t we?
Drunk people sometimes utter words of pure wisdom. Junkies sometimes reform and gain control of their future, gaining a new found respect for their life. Criminals sometimes repent, bringing those closest to them down. And in the grand scheme of things, the human race evolves.
Do i praise any of the above mentioned? And encourage their actions? Most definitely not, but instead of focusing on something which nobody can change; the state of human imperfection, i try to understand the way it works, and Learn from it what i can so that i too, can evolve. I try to see the big picture.
There is a grand purpose behind everyone’s existence, they just don’t always see it…
who gets to judge the value of an existence?
is it a personal matter in which some1 judges themselves based on their own set of morals, rules,… based on their own perspective? or is it the people around you that interact with you most and know you best? or is it a predefined set of laws and rules (by ‘god’ or men) that does not care about specifics? or are we doomed into thinking that value exists in us when truly we are but a spec of dust bound by time and place with nothing we do beeing of actual value when it comes to the flow of the universe?
I say let the drunk be for he may be the wisest and let the junkie be for he may me the most illuminated (well maybe dont be so cool with the criminal) .
dear Ahmad, even grandeur and great purpose are subjective and a matter of perspective, maybe you see it to be within the realm of self fulfillment spiritually, morally and mentally but a gym junkie would probably think grandeur to be in the size of the bicep and a drunk may find his grandeur in the bottom of the bottle!!
dear ahmad outside the box is another bigger box !!! think outside that one too 😉
I am… Are you sure that you are?
